I TRAIN FOR _______

Our life is about exploration and adventure, and we travel the world in search of new experiences and new challenges. We train to be at the top of our game, so that no matter what challenge presents itself, we are ready.

Climbing is a very complex sport and the training for climbing can take many forms. For the technical side there is no better way than spending time on the rocks, but for the physical side you can achieve a lot of gains by passing some hours in the gym. When we train in a gym, we break the physical demands of climbing down to their bare raw components. Pull-ups, dips, and sit-ups may not be the most interesting of exercises, but they form a base from where all other complex climbing movements can grow.

“ON ONE HAND CLIMBING IS VERY NATURAL AND INTUITIVE, ON THE OTHER IT'S INCREDIBLY COMPLEX. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND WHAT WORKS FOR PERSON A MAY NOT NECESSARILY WORK FOR PERSON B, SO WATCH AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN, TEST OUT ALL THE THINGS YOU SEE, AND MAKE SURE YOU TRAIN.”

Train _ the intensity of our training varies dramatically depending on the time of year and what upcoming projects we may have. As a simple example, winter is the time for bouldering and sport climbing, where as summer is spent climbing longer routes in the mountains. One of these is oriented around power, the other around endurance. You don’t train for the two in the same way. I find Mountain Athletics to be the perfect training tool to prepare me for my goal whatever it may be.
